Announcing the 2022 Inspiring Good Recipient

December 1, 2021

In 2019, Inspire created Inspiring Good to do something intentional and impactful as an agency that gives back to our local community.

Now in its third year, we’re excited to announce our 2022 grant recipient: Columbus Cultural Orchestra. Columbus Cultural Orchestra was established in 2020 to advance a collective of multi-generational musicians of color by performing high-quality jazz, classical and hip-hop music.

Stephen Spottswood, the organization’s artistic director, founded the organization to break the cycle of underrepresentation in orchestra ranks. He hopes to inspire all ages and races to tell their stories and embrace their heritage no matter what genre of music they play.

Columbus Cultural Orchestra teaches developing musicians between the ages of 13-15 arrangements of music from musicians such as Mozart, Miles Davis, Earth Wind & Fire and Drake. Over the past year, they have produced four concerts in various locations around Columbus, with more to come in 2022.

As a part of the Columbus Cultural Orchestra, students reap the benefits of learning to perform music that they love in a collaborative environment, working together equally with their peers to create beautiful music, and taking responsibility to practice, learn the music, attend rehearsals and more.

Our work with Columbus Cultural Orchestra will begin in January 2022, and the Inspire team could not be more excited to help tell their story. To learn more about the organization, visit ccomusic.org.
