American Egg Board and Outward Farms
The Project
The American Egg Board (AEB) is the national marketing organization of America’s egg farmers, and it works on behalf of farmers to increase demand for eggs and egg products through research, education, and promotion.
In October 2023, Inspire PR Group supported the American Egg Board and Outward Farms to plan and execute a visit from first lady Dr. Jill Biden to the farm in Ohio. The visit and farm tour were intended to provide the first lady with a firsthand look into modern egg production, and it coincided with World Egg Day on October 13, expanding the opportunity for media outreach and education.
The opportunity for Dr. Biden to visit Outward Farms stemmed from AEB’s decades-long partnership with The White House for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Outward Farms in Raymond, Ohio, was selected due to its educational efforts and programming, including an on-farm consumer education center, which aligns with Dr. Biden’s interest in education. Outward Farms is committed to being transparent with consumers about the egg-production process.
AEB and Outward Farms are both Inspire clients, so they partnered with Inspire and EPIC Associates LLC to plan and execute this important visit. Inspire provided the following services:
-
Supporting advanced site visits
-
Event planning and coordination with AEB and EPIC
-
Materials development and preparation
-
Media relations strategy and outreach
-
Social media strategy and support
-
On-site media coordination
Inspire collaborated closely with AEB staff, the owners of Outward Farms—brother-sister duo Daniel and Sandra Lausecker—and EPIC throughout the planning process to ensure the seamless execution of a once-in-a-lifetime event for two clients. The event not only highlighted Inspire's expertise in planning, managing, and executing such occasions but also showcased the significant and vital work carried out by egg farmers daily.
The Results
Inspire was on-site for the visit, including time before and after for preparation and follow-up. Upon arriving at Outward Farms, the First Lady was greeted by Sandra Lausecker and Emily Metz, AEB’s president. Dr. Biden then addressed the media before visiting the Outward Farms education center. While there, she visited Outward Farms staff and stakeholders, local and state officials, and Ohio agriculture commodity group leadership.
Daniel Lausecker then led the First Lady through a tour of the egg processing plant, where she saw firsthand how egg processing works. She also had the opportunity to candle an egg in the USDA grading booth. Media were permitted to be in the processing plant and witness the tour, taking photos and capturing video b-roll. After the processing tour, Sandra and the First Lady took a tour of a barn, so Dr. Biden could see the cage-free environment of a modern hen barn.
Inspire drafted a news release about the event on behalf of AEB and distributed it via PR Newswire to a total potential audience of 226.8 million. It was picked up 426 times, and the release had nearly 3,700 views and hits.
